All seemed to be going well. Then, something caught your eye. It had your attention and soon, your full-blown focus. As you approached, it drew you closer. And, before you knew it, wham! You were caught. Trapped.

At first glance, it appeared harmless or you justified it as so, but in your heart, you knew it was Temptation. Surprised by Satan’s scheme, you never guessed how deep it could drag you down and how far off your path you’d wander. You’d let down your guard and fallen into sin.
God warns us about Satan’s character and his deceitful tactics:
“Do not give the devil a foothold” (Ephesians 4:27).
“Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8b).
“When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44c).
God also provides us an offensive plan:
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (Ephesians 6:11).
Therefore, “Be self-controlled and alert” (1 Peter 5:8a) and focus instead on “him who is able to keep you from falling” (Jude 24). That is, keep your eyes on Jesus.
Just when you think you’re safe, just when you least expect it, that attractive bait will catch your eye. Only this time, you can be ready. Remember, the lure is a lie. Be alert so as not to be surprised. Identify it for what it is, a trap of Satan. Resist, flee, and be victorious.
Thanks be to God who gives us the victory! (1 Corinthians 15:57)
Thank you for the reminder!
