Distrac … tions
It took a minute. I had been reading … and then I realized I was also scratching … and scratching the back of my hand. I stopped reading. Upon close examination, I found the tiniest red dot. Apparently, a no-see-um … Continue reading

Sound the Blast
Back in the day … of Moses, waaaaay before internet, long, slender, silver trumpets were used to call the community or leaders to gather. These instruments were also used to signal the tribes of Israel to move forward from their … Continue reading

Beyond Belief
I believe in wearing deodorant, a seatbelt, and my wedding band. I feel these items benefit me and, in some cases, those around me. But, in these instances, if I don’t actually DO these things, my belief is irrelevant. Many … Continue reading

No Footprints
Couples walking hand in hand, joggers getting in their daily run, and children racing the waves back and forth, all leaving footprints on the shore. Muddy footprints mark a rainy day and the footprints of grandkids running through wet grass … Continue reading

Mission: Possible
What is your passion? What are your gifts and talents? How could God blend those with your willing spirit to help accomplish the mission He’s assigned you? Listen to where He is calling you. Step into the light He is shining in front of you. Most of the people in the Bible could not have guessed the future God had in store when they stepped forward in faith and said yes. When “all things are possible with God” (Mark 10:27b), there is no ‘Mission: Impossible.’ Continue reading

To Speak or Not To Speak
Our dilemma is knowing when to speak, and if we do, what to say. We need discernment and wisdom that only come from the Lord. We must pause, being cautious not to spew a knee-jerk reaction. We need to pray, taking time to listen with an open heart. And then, if led to respond, we should do so with a respectful tone. Continue reading
Hidden Treasure
James provides this encouragement with a warning, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt (James 1:5-6a). Proverbs 4:7 challenges us with, “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” And “for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her” (Proverbs 8:11). As you read God’s Word, ask Him to speak to your heart and open your ears to what He has to say specifically to you each day. Continue reading

Set Plans
Sometimes we are so set on our plan, we forget to seek God’s will for our life.
… when we feel like we’re being swamped by a surge of continuous whitecaps, we may want to stop and re-evaluate our decisions and plans. Continuing to sail onward in stubbornness causes us to miss out on God’s peace and blessings. Continue reading

Declare the Wonders
This caused me to reflect on the prayers God has recently answered in my life and of those around me. He truly is working wonders in so many ways. I just need to be ready, when the opportunity arises, to declare these wonders to others. Remember what Peter told his critics. “For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard” (Acts 4:20). So, whether we tell the good news of the gospel or share how God has provided or answered prayers, may we speak up and boldly declare ‘the wonders of God.’ Continue reading

Do Good
Most of us have a gut instinct that recognizes the good we ought to do. We hear that inner voice encouraging us to step up. The difficult part, for most of us, is actually doing it. So, today … and every day this week … and well, you get the idea … let’s DO good. If you need ideas, Paul gives some specifics in Titus 2:2-10,12; 3:1-2. Let’s stop being focused on our self, our needs and desires, and instead, see the good we ought to do, and simply do it! Continue reading
