Our Problem-Solver
Don’t you hate it when the meteorologist predicts bad weather? More snow, more unseasonably hot or wet or dry conditions. The prophet Elijah had just delivered bad news to a bad king. No rain for the next few years! Trouble … Continue reading

Who Do We Turn To?
Joys, sorrows, worries, fears, secrets. With whom do you share your deepest thoughts and concerns? Perhaps a spouse, best friend, neighbor, fellow believers, a mentor, or counselor. It usually depends on the subject or matter at hand. Sometimes, we may … Continue reading
Much More
Imagine yourself imprisoned in a room with one closed window. All you know is what you see. A patch of sky, a few tree branches, and some birds whose songs you barely hear. That sums up your knowledge of the … Continue reading

Don’t Panic! Pray
I’m writing a picture book about a kindergartner who panics when he arrives at school and sees a substitute. The poor child is on the verge of a meltdown when he suddenly remembers he should pray instead. Okay, this picture … Continue reading
Just Pray
When my son was a toddler, he would thank God for whatever was on his highchair tray. One particular meal brought giggles when he prayed before his food was dished up, “Thank You for my spoon and fork.” The apostle Paul included … Continue reading
I Need You, Lord!
Ever have one of those days? Recently, I turned to Phil Wickham’s “Battle Belongs” song for encouragement. In it, I found truth and hope because its message is grounded in Scripture. Let’s face it, I needed the Lord. I began … Continue reading

Wednesday Whisper ~ Approach God?
What do we imagine being in the presence of God like? Are we afraid He will strike us with a bolt of lightning or zing us with relentless, thundering accusations? Or, do we envision a scene of peacefulness, joy, compassion, and hope? The story of the lost (prodigal) son (Luke 15:11-32) portrays God as a father who runs with welcoming arms to those ready to leave their rebellious way of life. Amazingly, we can be reassured He is waiting for us, longing for us to come ‘home’ to Him as well. I would encourage you to sit and have a daily chat with the Lord, for truly, “There’s no place like home.” Continue reading
Prayer for America ~ 2016
Lord, we plead for our nation
Praying that You would intervene
That You would send peace and calmness
Where there is anger and rage
That You would send patience and hope
Where there is impulsiveness and fear
That You would touch and soften the hearts of people
Who have hardened their hearts toward You and others
That You would open our eyes, ears, and minds
To see, hear, and help those who are in need
To stop focusing on ourselves and reach out to our neighbors
To speak words of encouragement rather than criticism
And replace name-calling and rebellion with grace and love Continue reading
