The Rooster Crowed

Never thought
Never thought
I would be the one
Falling down
Caught in sin
Shamed by everyone
A disappointment
To One and all

Not losing faith
But I lost my way
My strength to stand
Seemed sapped away
Gave way to weakness
Gave in to fear
Let go of all
That I’d held so dear

And then, the rooster crowed!
And Jesus turned
And I remembered
His every word
He looked straight at me
Heart to broken heart
Could He use me now?
Had I gone too far?

Haunted by when the rooster crowed!
And Jesus turned
Then I remembered
His every word
He looked straight at me
Heart to broken heart
Could He use me now?
Had I gone too far?

Then He shared His plan with me
He revealed it graciously

He said, Feed My sheep
Your failure’s not the end
Feed My sheep
It’s you, I want to send
Feed My sheep
Show your love for Me
As I called you from the start
Come, follow Me!

He said, Feed My sheep
Your failure’s not the end
Feed My sheep
It’s you, I want to send
Feed My sheep
Show your love for Me
As I called you from the start
Come, follow Me!

Leave your failures in my hands
And come, follow Me!

Satisfied

Father God, don’t look at me
‘Cause deep inside You just might see
Discontentment, jealousy
Doubt and insufficiency

Help me grow, walk in Your Way
Reflect more of Your Son each day
Change me, mold me through the fire
Lord, this is my heart’s desire…to be

Chorus:
Satisfied
Satisfied anew
I, I, I, I want, I want
To be satisfied in You

Satisfied
Satisfied anew
I, I, I, I want, I want
To be satisfied in You

Satisfied ‘cause You are with me
Satisfied ‘cause You are here
Satisfied, You know the answer
Satisfied, You conquer every fear

Satisified, no need to worry
Satisfied, no need to doubt
Satisfied that when I stumble
Satisfied You’ll help me out

Chorus:
Satisfied
Satisfied anew
I, I, I, I want, I want
To be satisfied in You

Satisfied
Satisfied anew
I, I, I, I want, I want
To be satisfied in You

Satisfied, so stop comparing
Satisfied, no jealousy
Satisfied to have Your blessing
Satisfied on bended knee

Satisfied, You have provided
Satisfied, my thanks I give
Satisfied, You know the ending
Satisfied, with You I’ll live

Chorus:
Satisfied
Satisfied anew
I, I, I, I want, I want
To be satisfied in You

Satisfied
Satisfied anew
I, I, I, I want, I want
To be satisfied in You

Boundaries

Verse 1:
Looking for love
But loving God first
Not believing the lies
That alone is the worst
‘Sides I’m not alone
My God is with me
He’s at my side
And He’s guiding me, saying…

Verse 2:
Here are My boundaries
You need to stay strong
Stand firm in your values
Don’t surrender to wrong
You will be tempted
To give up and give in
But, trust in Me always
Find My strength deep within and say…

Chorus:
That’s too far
That’s too much
Not that kiss
Not that touch
Striving to live
A life that is pure
She’s waiting for him
And he’s waiting for her

Verse 3:
A friendship that’s growing
A love that’s begun
A hope that’s exciting
That you’ve found ‘the one’
A life without pressure
A love without fear
Of losing that one
When you say loud and clear…

Chorus:
That’s too far
That’s too much
Not that kiss
Not that touch
Striving to live
A life that is pure
She’s waiting for him
And he’s waiting for her

Chorus:
Hey, that’s too far
Whoa, that’s too much
No no, not that kiss
Stop, not that touch
Striving to live
A life that is pure
She’s waiting for him
And he’s waiting for her

She’s waiting for him
And he’s waiting for her

Prayer for America ~ 2016

Our Father, reigning in Heaven
Creator and Holy God
We come before Your throne
Humbled and on our knees

Lord, we plead for our nation
Praying that You would intervene
That You would send peace and calmness
Where there is anger and rage
That You would send patience and hope
Where there is impulsiveness and fear
That You would touch and soften the hearts of people
Who have hardened their hearts toward You and others
That You would open our eyes, ears, and minds
To see, hear, and help those who are in need
To stop focusing on ourselves and reach out to our neighbors
To speak words of encouragement rather than criticism
And replace name-calling and rebellion with grace and love

Lord, we confess our sins and unrighteousness
We plead for Your forgiveness
Which You made possible through Jesus, Your One and Only Son

You have blessed us with a great responsibility
The opportunity of having a noble nation
Help us be a people of integrity, obedient to Your instruction
We ask for Your wisdom and guidance, discernment and discretion
And may we choose to live for You alone

Above all else, we pray that You would be honored and glorified
And that Your will would be done in America
Through the most powerful Name of Jesus we pray
Amen

You Alone

Verse 1:
You, You are my delight
You alone can satisfy
Living Water fill my soul
You alone can make me whole

You, You touch and heal my heart
Abba Father, that’s who You are
Giving life and breath to me
Holy Spirit set me free

To seek You alone
I bow before Your throne
You alone have what I need
Holy Father, take the lead

And fill me with power
Wisdom for each hour
You can help me understand
Knowledge that is from Your hand

Chorus:
From You, You alone
You, You alone
Father, Spirit, and the Son
You alone, the only One

Oh You, You alone
You, You alone
Father, Spirit, and the Son
You alone, the only One

Verse 2:
You, You alone give peace
The Name of Jesus, I believe
You, You alone can save
And promise life beyond the grave

For You prepare a place for me
With You, I’ll live eternally
Hope of heaven, all things new
How I long to worship You

Chorus:
You, You alone
You, You alone
Father, Spirit, and the Son
You alone, the only One

You, You alone
You, You alone
Father, Spirit, and the Son
You alone, the only One

You alone, yes You alone
You alone, the only One

A New List

Verse 1:
Making a list
‘Cause that’s what I do
Replaying the pain
That you put me through

Hurts and heartbreak
My memory recalls
A marriage in trouble
Lives within these walls

Chorus:
But everyone fails
And everyone hurts
Our struggles continue
Under the curse

I need to let go
And focus on good
Remember to love
And forgive as I should

Verse 2:
So into the shredder
I let go of the list
And choose to choose better
Noble thoughts are my quest

A heart that is trying
To serve and submit
Yearning to follow God’s Word
All of it

Chorus:
For everyone fails
And everyone hurts
Our struggles continue
Under the curse

I need to let go
And focus on good
Remember to love
And forgive as I should

Verse 3:
A new list to brag on
Of one to be proud
Listing your praiseworthy traits
Long and loud

Forgetting the old
And looking for new
Ways to show that I love you
I do!

True: God’s Plan of Salvation

“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

“All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” (Acts 10:43)

God’s plan to save mankind was to send His one and only Son, Jesus. Remember, God wanted a relationship with us, but sin caused us to be separated from God. Therefore, God lovingly made a way for that great chasm to be bridged. Jesus left Heaven, came to earth, and lived a perfect life, never giving in to the temptation of sin. He accepted the punishment of death for all mankind. He was the perfect sacrifice necessary for our salvation. Luke 19:10 states Jesus’ purpose for coming: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.” (That’s you and me!) Our salvation is a free gift, paid for in full by Jesus.

What do you do with a gift? That is your choice. You can ignore it, reject it, or accept it. Perhaps you have already accepted God’s gift of salvation and made Jesus Lord of your life. Or maybe you are curious like the crowds the apostle Peter spoke to in the book of Acts when they asked, “…what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37b) “Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” (Acts 2:38)

To accept the gift of God’s salvation means taking a step of faith, believing and confessing that Jesus is the Son of God. You repent, changing your mind, direction and purpose in life. By obeying in biblical baptism, which Jesus exemplified in Matthew 3, you demonstrate dying to self by being immersed in water, the washing away of sin, and being raised out of the water to start a new life with Jesus as your Lord. Notice that we are not saved by doing any amount of good works. We are saved by God’s grace which we undeniably do not deserve!

Today’s Truth: God sent Jesus so that we could be saved and have a relationship with Him.

True: God Is Holy and We Are Sinners

“‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.’” (Revelation 4:8b)

Say the above scripture a few times and you will be joining the creatures in heaven that are around the throne of God, worshiping Him day and night without ceasing. The word ‘holy’ refers to something or someone who is sacred, pure, blameless, or consecrated. I think of adjectives like perfect and flawless, but God is so much more than that. He is greater than anyone or anything we could ever describe, imagine, or fathom! No wonder the creatures repeat “Holy, holy, holy…”

If God is holy, what are we? Since the fall of Adam and Eve, all of mankind has chosen to sin, that is, do wrong and break the law. We are not holy; we are sinners. Romans 3:23 says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. The result of our sin is explained in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death…” That’s what we sinners deserve, a punishment of death. We are not worthy to be with a holy God in His holy heaven.

“‘There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no rock like our God.’” (1 Samuel 2:2)

If only God is holy, what does that mean for us? How can we ever have a relationship with Him and eventually join Him in His amazing new heaven and earth? The good news is “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) And “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23 – the entire verse)

So, even though our sin separates us from God, God loved us so much that He made a way for us to come to Him. In tomorrow’s reading, you will find God’s plan of salvation for us sinners.

Today’s Truth: God is holy, but He made a way for us to come to Him.

True: God Seeks and Invites All

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

“In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.” (Matthew 18:14)

“Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.” (Matthew 22:9)

In the previous devotional, we learned that God desires a relationship with all people. Today, we will briefly look at two parables of Jesus that illustrate how God actively seeks and invites all people to come to Him.

In Matthew 18:12-14 and Luke 15:3-7, we find simple stories of a shepherd searching for his lost sheep. The compassionate shepherd leaves his other ninety-nine sheep in safety to seek the one that wandered off. When he finds it, he rejoices! These parables demonstrate God’s great love for us, all of us, those who have not chosen to believe as well as those who believe but have wandered off. Jesus is the shepherd who searches for you, to bring you into His loving arms and rejoice over you!

The next parable is found in Matthew 22:1-14 and Luke 14:15-24. Here, God is compared to a king who plans a great wedding banquet for his son. At first, the king invites many guests. But when it is time for the celebration to begin, those guests are full of excuses and refuse to come. Upset, the king instructs his servants to go out and invite anyone they can find so that his house will be full. This parable is a beautiful picture of God’s desire for all to come into His Kingdom. Again, we see God search for and extend His invitation to anyone who will come.

Today’s Truth: God seeks you out and invites you into His Kingdom.*

* To enter into the Kingdom of God means to allow God to rule in your heart, surrendering your life to Him. (This will be discussed soon in: God’s Plan of Salvation.)

True: God Created You

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:13-14)

So… we know that God created the world. But for whom did He create it? For us! You and me and a whole bunch of other people! In the children’s song below, I share the simple truths inspired by Psalm 139:

God made me
He made me wonderfully
He put me together carefully
God made me!

God made you
He made you special too
He knew all you would say and do
God made you!

When the world was first created, the best thing was that it was perfect, and so were the first two people, briefly. After the sixth day of creation, we find, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31) God loved the ones He created. He knew that they would make poor decisions and sin, but He chose to create them anyway. He wanted a relationship with them and He actually entered the world He made for them. Genesis 2 records that God talked with Adam, gave him instruction, brought him the animals to name, and provided him with a suitable mate. Genesis 3 tells us that God walked in the garden, looking for Adam and Eve, talking with them. His plan was to be with the people He created.

Remember these truths. God created you and knows you. He knows your name and everything about you. He hears your call, your cry, and your concerns. He waits for you to seek Him and when you do, He runs to you with open arms, welcoming you into a relationship with Him!

Today’s Thought: God made you and desires to have a relationship with you.
